St George’s Scout Group

St George’s Scout Group was formed in late 2021, under the sponsorship of the Catholic Parish of Christchurch North.  The group was officially launched on 5 April 2022 with Archbishop Paul Martin (a former cub and scout) attending the investiture evening.

The scout group has boys and girls in Keas (aged 6 & 7), Cubs (aged 8 - 10) and Scouts (aged 11 - 15).  All three sections currently meet at Christ the King Church Pastoral Centre on Tuesdays, 5.00 - 6.30pm.

St George, pray for us!

Patron Saint of Scouts

Scouting is a non-formal education system which encourages the physical, mental, spiritual and social development of young people so they become self confident, resilient and responsible citizens. Scouting has an award/badge scheme.  The method of achieving this is by providing an enjoyable and attractive programme of progressive training based on the Scout Law and Promise and guided by trained and vetted volunteer Adult Leaders. “We empower youth through adventurous experiences to lead lives that make a positive difference.”

St George’s Scout Group will provide your child with the opportunity to make good friends, be part of a team and develop leadership skills, learn practical and life skills, and have lots of fun while doing so.  Regular outdoor activities such as hiking and camping take place which help the children learn by doing.

Named after the patron saint of Scouts, our group does scouting within a Catholic context, e.g. prayers at the weekly meetings, Mass at weekend camps, cooperation with the parish, service projects with St Vincent de Paul Society.  We wear the New Zealand Catholic Scout badge on the apex of our group scarf.
