“Go and baptise them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Having your child baptised.
From the very beginning, the Church has always baptised children as well as adults. Our Lord said:
“Unless a person is reborn in water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
This means that children should not be deprived of baptism.
Children are precious to Jesus.
He loves them dearly.
He wants to save them by giving his blessings to them as they grow up in the spiritual family he began, the Church.
We experience the Church and belong to the Church in our local parish. It is there that we gather to worship God and to learn together about the ways of God. So baptism takes place in our parish Church, for it is there that the parish family gather.
Please see below our baptism booklet for more information about Baptism in the Catholic Church, and when you are ready to make a baptism booking, please fill out the form found at the bottom of the page.
We require that at least one of the parents of the child looking to be baptised to be Catholic. If both parents are not Catholic - we ask that you call (or email) the parish office and organise a time to meet the priest in person.
Ages for Baptism
In our parish, we have split the age brackets into three groups as each child (or children) will undergo baptism preparation differently according to their age.
-
If your child/ren are aged 7 years and below, you are invited to fill out a ‘Baptism Form’ below.
Parish administration staff will contact you once these forms are submitted and organise with you the date of Baptism Preparation and the actual celebration of the Baptism itself.
-
For children aged 7 - 14, the Parish has a different Baptism Preparation Class for this age group as these older children require a slightly different baptism preparation to those who are under 7.
Fr Edwin runs this programme once a term and they follow the following format:
Three Monday Afternoon Sessions during term time, at St Gregory’s Church.
Baptism is then celebrated once these sessions are competed.
We require a parent to be present at these sessions with their child.
Please fill out the baptism form below if you would like your child to be baptised.
Baptism Preparation with Fr Edwin - Term 4
Monday 21 October, Monday 4 November, Monday 11 November.
-
If your child/ren are 14 and above, please contact the Priests’ PA to organise a time to see Frs. Rick or Alister to meet you and your child/ren.
They will then refer you to the appropriate Baptism Preparation, and it is most likely that they will be part of the Rite of Christian Initiation Programme where they receive Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion at the same time.
